Molasses can be saved, stored, transported, and distilled at any point in the year. In contrast, when sugarcane is pressed into fresh juice it does not last very long. It is sensational in its contradictions... Intricate yet silky smooth, full-bodied yet delicate.

Cruzan Single Barrel Rum

Cruzan Single Barrel Rum is a traditional molasses based rum. It is a mix of rums aged between 5 and 12 years in ex-bourbon and whiskey barrels. After the mix is complete, it is placed in a new charred oak barrel where it lives for a further year, permitting the numerous rums in the blend to marry together. Therefore the name "Single Barrel."

The additional year in new oak also provides the blend with more flavour than it otherwise would have had. This is a very approachable rum, with a superb nose of carmel and brown sugar. Flavors of dried fruit, smoke, oak, spice, maple, vanilla, and nut, dance across the palate. This rum's flavour profile is just about cognac like in status and style. Keep this under consideration all you cognac fans out there next time you are looking for something slightly different to enjoy with a fine cigar.
