Do You Know The Differences Of White And Red Wines?
Everyone knows the main difference between red and white wine is the colour. One of the other ways they are different is the taste. A red wine has a much heavier taste then white but also a much more complex. The white on the other hand has a much sweeter taste even though there are some sweet reds, whites are generally sweeter.
White wines are made by taking the skin of the grapes and taking the juice. After this you use yeast for fermentation until the juice changes to wine. The wine is then placed in oak wood containers or sometimes made from stainless steel.
When making red wine you have to crush the grapes skins and all. This is different to making white wine. The grapes are then left with their skins to go through the fermentation process, which lasts around 2 weeks. Towards the end of this process the skins will raise to the top, they are then mixed back into the juice to carry on fermenting.
Once the wine is fully fermented the wine is put through a wine press. This is to help the wine to be clarified. Once this has taken place the wine is stored in oak barrels for a few months, before it is transferred into glass bottles. By storing the red wine in oak containers you are transferring extra tannin to the mixture. This gives the wine the extra flavour that is found in red wine compared to white.
One of the main differences between red and white wines is its taste. The difference of taste is partly down to the amount of tannin each contains. The red wine has the extra tannin dues the skins of the grape being part of the mixture. The white grape skins are removed during the wine making process.
There tends to be more flavours with red wines when compared with white wine. If you believe what the media is saying the red wine gives you a greater health benefit then the white wine. This is another reason to put red wine in your shopping basket when it comes to that time of the week.
