It is the oldest wine producer in Australia and is situated in the heart of the wine country, right between the gateway city of Cessnock on one side and Branxton on the other.

There are 120 over wineries, so visitors can pick and choose from a whole bunch of wine tours. The lodging options are also just as numerous, and visitors can enjoy old Colonial mansions filled with the latest modern facilities and amenities. There are 5 star hotels and golf resorts, as well as cosy guesthouses and bed & breakfasts, as well as cheap hostels and motels.

Aside from the wine tours and shopping and dining, a stay here offers the chance to see the Hunter Valley Gardens and activities like hot air ballooning. Wollombi accommodations are also just as good for an outdoors vacation. There are cabins up in the hillside near Wollombi Village and overlooking the vineyards. It is a favourite haunting ground for bushwalkers, birdwatchers, artists and photographers.

To sum it up, Hunter Valley accommodation depends partly on the type of vacation, length of stay and the destination chosen. A weekend stay for wine lovers or tourists is best enjoyed in Pokolbin. But those looking for something more - maybe a quiet getaway, an extended stay or perhaps a vacation in the outdoors - should look at the other choices including Cessnock, the Wollombi Valley and Barrington Tops.
